A Girl, Her Plate and Her Cravings
I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, writer/blogger, prayer warrior, business owner, retreat founder, and a Certified Health Coach. My daily task often demands more time than the day allows leaving me spent by nightfall. My plate is full.
While eating dinner in a rush one night I am jolted with the realization my “food plate” is a mirror image of my “life plate”. Busyness and continual giving of myself leaves my heart malnourished and ignites many cravings. I crave love, acceptance, freedom, and being beautiful and delighted in - (significance cravings). I crave many beautiful things like clothes, jewelry, and home decor - (material cravings). I crave chips, salsa, juicy cheeseburgers, fried chicken, and milk chocolate - (physical cravings). Add emotions into the mix and all control is lost. I eat, shop, and embrace self-pity when I am sad, frustrated, disappointed, tired and lonely.
CRAVINGS. CRAVINGS. CRAVINGS. My cravings dominate. This overload, high stress and lack of self-care is a breeding ground for sickness and disease and is wreaking havoc slowly and silently inside my fearfully and wonderfully made body.
On my health journey to heal emotionally, physically, spiritually, and relationally I discovered a priceless jewel tucked away in the pages of Holy writ.
“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:31-33
The word seek in the Greek language is “zeteo” meaning to CRAVE. Webster’s definition of crave is “to feel a powerful desire for (something); long for, yearn for, desire, want, wish for, hunger for, thirst for, sigh for, pine for, covet, lust after, ache for, set one’s heart on, dream of, be bent on.”
Wow! Wow! God tells me to CRAVE Him above all else. He desires me to pine for Him, ache for Him, hunger for Him, set my heart on Him - FIRST. When I crave Him more than anything else He alone will fulfill my significance, material, and physical cravings and bring perfect peace, balance, fulfillment, and fullness to all “my plates” and me.
Take one action step today:
When the cravings hit (and they will) STOP for two minutes and bring awareness to what it is you think you want, breath, and ask God to show you what it is you desperately need. Are you using food, TV, books, shopping, or even a getaway to fill your longings and get temporary relief? OR do you want lasting restoration?
Acknowledge Him First, invite Him in, and ask Him to fulfill your cravings with Himself.
